Digital astrophotography can be complicated: if you want to take the best photos of the night sky, you don't just need a telescope, a mount and a camera... You'll also need a list of accessories such as a guiding camera, a motorized focuser and heaters, and they must all be powered and controlled with the appropriate software.
This can quickly turn any telescope into a complicated mess of tangled cables!
The EAGLE eliminates the need for an external computer and you are not limited to a predefined list of features - You can install any software and device you want to use on the EAGLE.

This way you can connect and control many devices to the EAGLE and you can remotely enable/disable the USB ports as needed, instead of having to unplug or plug in cables manually! This can be a nice feature to save power (you can disable the port you're not using), but you can also reset the port if a device connection fails. Thanks to the EAGLE's USB 3.0 ports you can connect and use the latest fast USB 3.0 cameras - This allows you to use the EAGLE LE also for planetary imaging and record videos of the Moon, planets and Sun on the internal SSD drive.
The EAGLE has a separate 12V power input. From there, using a special internal board, power is distributed to the other power output ports -
These ports are equipped with safety screw connections to prevent unwanted cable detachment and we have manufactured special power cables (optional) for different devices.
Variable 0-12V power output ports are designed to power dew heaters without the need for an external controller. Control of these ports can be easily automated by adding the optional ECCO environmental module for EAGLE.
A dedicated chip on the EAGLE's power board protects the electronics (both on the EAGLE and connected devices) from overcurrent by temporarily disconnecting power in less than 1ms in the event of electrical problems - much faster than traditional fuses. Power is automatically turned back on once the problem is resolved. Additionally, a special microcontroller allows you to adjust (+- 1A) the maximum current limit of the 12V ports. This way, if you want to connect a device to a 3A max port and that device has a maximum power consumption of 4A, you can increase the port limit to 4A.
To use EAGLE, you don't need a keyboard and mouse - You can control the EAGLE via a free dedicated app, available on any smartphone, tablet or personal computer running Windows, MacOS, iOS or Android.
Turn on the EAGLE, then enable your device's WiFi connection and select the WiFi network provided by the EAGLE. Launch the remote control app and you will have the EAGLE desktop on your screen with access to all your astrophotography software. If you wish, you can also configure the EAGLE LE to connect to a pre-existing WiFi or wired/Ethernet network allowing remote access via the Internet - perfect for remote observatories!
Since the EAGLE does not use VNC or other software for remote control, it is faster and more stable. For your security, each EAGLE device creates a unique WiFi network, from any other EAGLE that may be nearby. To avoid any further problems at a star party, each EAGLE also has a unique access password known only to you.
You can connect the EAGLE to any type of telescope, allowing you to have less wiring with shorter lengths that move with the telescope. This greatly reduces the risk of a cable getting snagged or coming loose while your telescope tracks the stars in the sky. We designed the EAGLE case to be incredibly rigid - rigid enough to support a parallel telescope.
The EAGLE enclosure comes with M5 and M6 threaded holes to seamlessly attach PLUS accessories (support rings, guide rings, dovetail bars or dovetail clamps), in at least 2 points to maintain the rigidity of the system. For example, the EAGLE LE can be installed between the PLUS support rings and the guide rings, without any bending (for guide telescopes up to 8 kg or main telescope) improving the portability of your telescope and allowing it to be moved field pre-assembled, significantly reducing your installation time.
By adding ECCO, (Environmental Computerized COntroller) to your EAGLE, you can automatically and continuously monitor the dew point (the temperature below which moisture condenses) by sensing the temperature and humidity of the air around of your telescope and the temperature of your lenses. ECCO will then automatically vary the voltage to the appropriate ports on the EAGLE where your dew heater strips are connected, preventing dew from forming on your optics. All this with an automatic and easy-to-use device that you just need to connect to one of the EAGLE LE USB ports. That's why we call it ECCO: in Italian, it means "Here you are"!
EAGLE comes with special software "EAGLE Manager" which starts automatically and provides a simple and intuitive interface, allowing you to:
- Enable/Disable each 12V power output port: This way you can keep all your devices connected (e.g. stand, camera, filter wheel, etc.) and activate them remotely when you turn on the entire system. Each port displays current consumption which can also be monitored over time.
- Set the output voltage of 0-12V power output ports: increase or decrease the power of dew heaters connected to EAGLE. Each port displays current consumption which can also be monitored over time.
- Activate DARK mode: this turns off all LED lights.
- Connect or disconnect devices connected to the four USB 2.0 ports: this feature comes in handy in the event of a temporary crash of an autoguider or planetary camera, which can then be reset without needing to go to the telescope and disconnect /reconnect a cable.
- Check power consumption and battery life: if you power your EAGLE with a battery, a dedicated menu allows you to set the amp capacity of your battery and the charge percentage when EAGLE is on, you allowing monitoring of its expected lifespan.
- Set WiFi connectivity: to access EAGLE in Hotspot mode for use in the field (use your smartphone, tablet or external computer by connecting directly to EAGLE without the need for a WiFi router) or in HOST mode to connect to your existing network such as your home WiFi.
- Set your automatic power routines: You can set the port state "After Power On" and "Before Power Off" for devices connected to the EAGLE. This way, for example, you can automatically turn on all your devices after starting the EAGLE and turn them all off when you turn off the EAGLE.
